Firearms: launch of a safety awareness campaign

MONTREAL – The Office of Arms and Explosives Control is launching a new awareness campaign to promote the responsible and safe use of firearms.

To this end, the Bureau reminds that a confidential telephone line is available to citizens so that they can report their concerns about firearms. The 1-800-731-4000 line is intended primarily for the entourage of persons who possess or intend to acquire a firearm.

If a citizen has concerns or fear of a violent situation, a change of behavior, a case of distress about a loved one, a colleague, a spouse or a former spouse that could compromise that person’s safety or of others, he can use this line. Each report received will be analyzed.

The Bureau also urges possession license holders to ensure that firearms are stored safely, to comply with firearms regulations and to handle them in a prudent and conscientious manner.
