Firearms Prevention Campaign
The Sûreté du Québec’s Office for the Control of Firearms and Explosives (BCAFE) is launching a new awareness campaign to promote the responsible and safe use of firearms: “Responsible. Secure. For life!”.
This campaign targets the entire population. To this end, the BCAFE has completely refreshed the image of its “I have a doubt, I call” telephone line, 1 800 731-4000 (options 1 and 2) between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. This confidential line is made available to citizens so that they can report their concerns about firearms. However, it is intended primarily for the entourage of people who own or intend to acquire a firearm.
If a citizen has concerns or fear of a violent situation, a change of behavior, a case of distress about a loved one, a colleague, a spouse or a former spouse that could compromise that person’s safety or of others, he must not hesitate to join this telephone line. In case of emergency, dial 9-1-1.
The holder of a firearms possession and acquisition license must also behave responsibly and safely, especially if he or she goes through a more difficult time. Among other things, he must ensure that his firearms are stored safely, comply with the firearms regulations, comply with the conditions of his license, and handle his firearms. in a careful and conscientious way.
The Chief Firearms Officer is responsible, among other things, for determining the eligibility of an applicant to issue, refuse to issue, renew or revoke a firearms possession and acquisition license. This confidential line is one more step towards maintaining public safety.
